Today’s Meditation Verses:

Matthew 6:9-13

9 Our Father in heaven,

as it is in heaven.

11 Give us today the food we need,a

12 and forgive us our sins,

as we have forgiven those who sin against us.

13 And don’t let us yield to temptation,b

but rescue us from the evil one.c

This is the Lord’s Prayer as translated in the New Living Translation. Most of us can quote it from the King James Bible, but I wanted to use the NLT because is brings the prayer into today’s simpler language.

For some reason this prayer has been resonating within me lately. Often when I pray these words seem to rise up within me. So, I’ve begun praying this prayer often. Because of that I’ve also begun mediating on the words of this prayer and just exactly what I am praying.

Verse 9 acknowledges the holiness of God and prays that His name will be kept holy. As we enter into His gates in prayer remembering God’s holiness is of supreme importance and will center us in our faith as we do remember.

Verse 10 asks for God’s kingdom to come soon. For years I’ve heard that we should not wish for the end times as there are too many people who still need to come to Christ. But as I was meditating on this verse I realized that what Jesus is instructing us to do is request that the end times hurry along so that God’s kingdom here on earth can be reestablished.

Verse 11 asks for our daily food. We know that there are ample scriptures about God’s abundant provision and that we have no need to worry about it. But here it does show that we are to continue to pray and request that provision. However to be fed by daily bread may not just mean literal bread but spiritual and emotional nourishment as well.

Verse 12 shows us to ask for forgiveness as we forgive those around us. We are perpetually forgiven, but if we want to put a kink in the pipeline of grace which rains that forgiveness down on us then all we have to do is not forgive others. Note verses 14 and 15.

Verse 13 asks God to help us with all the daily temptations that will most assuredly come our way and also asks that He will run interference for us with the enemy, protecting us through out the day.

The preceding verses to this prayer talk about not needing to babble on with long lengthy prayers. I love the simplicity of this prayer that covers so much in such an efficient manner. Learn this prayer and its meaning and then you will have no longer have the excuse that you have no time to pray or that you do not know what to pray.

Meditating on the meaning of these prayer verses will bring reflection to ours lives. Use this prayer to kick start your prayer life today.

Each Monday we are going to be having ‘Monday Meditations’. We hope to bring to you each Monday a verse to mediate on for the week. This is not for memorization, but to think about and to dwell on. The word meditate, in the bible, means to mutter. So this week as you go about your life, mutter to yourself the verse for the week and think about how it applies to your life. Meditating on a verse will bind it to your spirit and it will become part of you! The more of the Word you meditate on, the more it will transform you into the image of Christ!

This is a continuation of the post Who Are The Greedy. I recommend that read that you read that post prior to reading this one.

Let’s consider a few things as we ponder this scripture.

Deuteronomy 8:18 – But remember the Lord your God, for it is he who gives you the ability to produce wealth, and so confirms his covenant, which he swore to your forefathers, as it is today.

There are countless scriptures in the bible confirming God’s desire for us is to have more than enough, living an abundant life. But there are so many who are not living in abundance.

This is what I believe:

God has given everyone the power to obtain wealth in order to fulfill His covenant with Abraham. Deut 8:18

He wants us to never forget that the source was Him and not of our own doing. Deut 8:11-17

Even though He has given us the power to obtain wealth we still have to seek Him about how to do this for our own individual lives. Proverbs 16:9

There is effort involved to obtain. Sometimes great effort and hard work. Proverbs 14:23

Stepping out in faith is required just as the one who invested (let go of) their minas in order to hopefully gain more. Hebrews 11:6

He expects us to take whatever it is we have whether great or small (10 or 5 minas) and use it and then be content with the reward we have reaped. Philippians 4:12

Never give up. Galations 6:9, Romans 12:11

Don’t grumble or complain about the work you have before you. Philippians 2:14-15

Since we know that ALL things are possible to those who believe (Philippians 4:13) then everyone everywhere has the ability to have all that they could ever need or want.

God has at the ready His provision and power to anyone who is ready to take hold and believe Him for it. God has not created any victims, and those who wallow in a victim mentality, always blaming others for what they do not have, only create more poverty in their lives as we saw with the fearful victim in the parable above.

But there is hope. If you feel that you have been a victim to circumstance there is hope for you today. Stop looking to others to pull you out of where you are. Stop blaming others for where you are. Start looking to God who desires to take you hand as you reach out to him, and pull you up.

It may not be easy and it may seem overwhelming. There will be work involved. It may only be the work of reading the bible to renew your mind or it may be stepping out in faith to work at a job you never thought you had the skill or ability to do before. Just remember that now you DO have the ability because God will give it to you.

Let me leave on last thought with you.

Mark 9:23 – “‘If you can’?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”

Remember, stop looking at the avenue from which your provision comes and start looking to the source, the provider, and remember He can provide through any source He chooses. Trust Him and the avenue may change, but the provision will grow beyond your wildest dreams.

Those who live in America are blessed just to be able to live in such a great country. Most have no idea just how blessed they are because they have not seen other countries and those who are not blessed.

Here in American those who don’t feel blessed make that judgment based by comparing themselves with other blessed people here in the same country.

Yes there are many in need in this country. There are homeless people, people who go hungry and those who are destitute.

But one of the most amazing things about America is that we have the resources and the blessing of God covering the land so that positive change can happen quickly. We have the freedom to get help and help is available.

If you need to get an education to get a job there are programs to help you do that. But you must be willing to put the effort in to go to class and do the work. If you need food there are food pantries and food stamps to get you by until better times. But that doesn’t relieve your responsibility to learn to make the most of those resources.

If you lose your job we have unemployment. If you lose your house we have bankruptcy and if you keep your credit clean for 2 years you can buy another house. We are truly the land of resources if one looks for them.

In the world and America too, there have always been those who have great wealth and those who have almost no money at all.

But here in America one thing that has always made it unique is that there was open opportunity to gain wealth and rise above where you were at.

There are countless stories, thousands in fact, of people who grew up in poverty, had nothing and no education who became wealthy. It was because of so many achieving success in that way that the county remained a country of hope. There was no despair regardless of where you were, hard work and faith would take you higher.

Of course there is always jealousy. If one person rises to the top after discovering a new business or invention and another didn’t, human nature has a tendency to become angry and jealous.

When a person becomes jealous that another succeeded and they didn’t, they often label the wealthy person as greedy. That idea has stuck. For years the wealthy have been scorned for being – greedy, the middle class are honored for being – content and the poor pitied and fawned over for being – victims.

But I’m not sure that is how God sees them.

Just because someone has money does not make them greedy. The definition of greed is: Intense and selfish desire for something, esp. wealth, power, or food. My guess is it is more accurate to say that those who do not have are far greedier than those who do have.

My point is that many of the poor may be a victim of their own greed.

In Luke 19:11-27 Jesus talks about a parable where a king instructs his servants to take what they have been given and gain more. In the New International Version it says, “Put this money to work,’ he said, ‘until I come back.”

When he returns one servant took his ten minas and gained ten more. He was praised for the wealth he had obtained and made ruler over 10 cities. The second servant was faithful with what he had been given and was praised for the wealth he had obtained and made ruler over 5 cities.

But the last servant did nothing at all with the mina he had been given. He wrapped it in a cloth and hid it away. He didn’t even put it in the bank to draw interest. He was scolded for being fearful.

I believe it was also easy to just wrap up the mina and give it back to the king when he returned. It took no effort at all. I would venture to say that he might have been a little lazy because he didn’t even put forth the effort to go put it in the bank.

So the king told them to take away the one mina that he had and give it to the one who had ten. There was a cry of outrage because the one whom the king gave it to already had ten! I believe they saw the one with ten as being the greedy enemy and the one with one as being the victim.

But here is what was said by the king in the end…

26) “He replied, ‘I tell you that to everyone who has, more will be given, but as for the one who has nothing, even what he has will be taken away.

With that principle great wealth is formed and also great poverty. I believe our view of wealth is far different than that of God’s. Let me encourage you to read the entire parable prayerfully and consider your own opinion of who the greedy are.

Greed is a word used to blame. Blaming others for what you do not have and is born of your very own greed. Give it to God today. He is the God of many chances. Your opportunity is ahead.

I’ve been watching and waiting for the end times to come to pass since I was in high school in the 1970’s. It was mentioned briefly at the church I attended, but I began on my own to read books written by different biblical scholars who specialized in end time’s prophecy.

And then I began to pray and wait.

But it wasn’t until recently that I have felt such an urgency to begin studying all over again with new thoughts and insights based on our own current events. I’ve changed my opinion of how events would unfold from previous years based on increased understanding.

I am not afraid to say I have changed my mind. In fact that is something I pray almost every day. I ask Father God to show me the truth; even if it means showing me that I have been wrong. Nothing is more important to me than knowing the truth.

In my studies I came across the scripture above. When looking closer at the Greek text I noticed that the words ‘committed adultery’ were porneuó in the Greek. The obvious definition is fornication and is the root for the word we use which is ‘pornography’.

But in looking around at world events and those events in our own country I think that the second definition is much more relevant in these end times.

To be unfaithful to Christ, while posing as His true follower.

It has become so evident in these last days that not everyone who claims to be a Christian is. This is not a new thought to us, but even more radically so here in these last days.

It is my own personal belief that if we are a true follower of Christ we will not be enticed away by the political correctness of the times. In verse 2 above it talks about how the kings (or our rulers) will be ‘unfaithful to Christ, while posing as His true follower’ and the inhabitants of the earth were intoxicated with the wine of her ‘unfaithfulness’.

In the past few years I’ve seen people I’ve known to be faithful to Christ become intoxicated with a political agenda which runs perpendicular to the gospel of Christ.

On Monday Meditations this week I wrote about trusting God as the source and not the avenue with which He chooses to provide for us. There is almost a civil war brewing over political provision. There is a fear that permeates this country that ones political provision with disappear.

Fear will cause good people to do things they would never have done in calmer times. Many have chosen to stand on the side that ensures their political provision even though it means standing on the side of abortion, indebtedness, homosexuality, etc.

Now let me say right now lest you label me as a ‘hater’, I’m not. I’ve known dear friends who have chosen abortion. I can in no way condemn them or their choice even though I feel abortion is wrong. God loves them and forgives them and does not condemn them. Knowing this I could never condemn them either and I love them dearly. Scriptures on abortion.

We’ve all been in debt and most still are, but we all know that we are to strive to be debt free because that is the responsible thing to do. Being in debt makes us master to the lender. God’s desire is for us to be free and slave to no man, but a bond-slave to Him alone. Scriptures on debt.

I’ve also known many homosexuals, mostly men. One in particular became very dear to my heart and I still think of him often. He was one of the most compassionate and sincere people I have ever known. I love him dearly and always will. I know that the act of homosexuality is a sin but it does not change my love for him. Scriptures on homosexuality – new testament.

In these last days I’ve seen an intoxication that has created an exodus from Godly principles to justified views all in order to protect a supposed source of income.

This isn’t a message about politics. Please don’t make it into that. This is a message about remaining true to the Godly principles that we hold dear in our hearts and fighting to maintain those principles even if it means we could lose something we hold dear.

We must trust God as our source as we fight to hold on to His principles.

Let us NOT be unfaithful to Christ, while posing as His true follower.

Where does your trust lie?

I have seen the fear of ‘not having’ drive good people to do things and believe in things that I never thought possible.

Our unemployment rate is at one of the highest ever in our history as a nation and there is a massive number of people fearful of ‘not having’. If they have a job they fear losing it. If they have lost their job they fear unemployment running out. They also fear not finding another job.

This type of fear can be likened to someone whose ship sank and tossed them into the deep sea. They frantically reach and grasp to cling to anything they can so that they will not sink. It is a horrible feeling.

It causes people to grow angry and fight to get all that they can from wherever they can. It doesn’t matter if it is their neighbor, their friends, their family or their government. They fear and so they reach out to take whatever they can in order to not drown.

Can we learn to live as Elijah did? Can we learn to completely trust so that when there is no visible source, God will still give us all that we need?

Can we learn to see that our employer, our government, and our business is not our provider? Can we learn that God is our provider and only He chooses the avenue with which to provide for us?

Can we learn to stop trusting the avenue and just trust in Him?

Each Monday we are going to be having ‘Monday Meditations’. We hope to bring to you each Monday a verse to mediate on for the week. This is not for memorization, but to think about and to dwell on. The word meditate, in the bible, means to mutter. So this week as you go about your life, mutter to yourself the verse for the week and think about how it applies to your life. Meditating on a verse will bind it to your spirit and it will become part of you! The more of the Word you meditate on, the more it will transform you into the image of Christ!

New International Version (NIV)
6 Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

This scripture is a very well known scripture, one that we often quote even if only in part. We often say ‘be anxious for nothing’. But the key to not be anxious is in the remainder of the verse. That part alone will not be enough for we cannot force ourselves to not be anxious just by determining we won’t.

It is Thanksgiving season in America. We know that the Pilgrims gave thanks to God after surviving a long hard year here in this new land. With the help of the Native Americans, they were able to learn to grow crops and reap a bountiful harvest.

In the bible there were always huge feasts in times of celebration so it was with the Pilgrims. To celebrate their thankfulness they had what we call the very first Thanksgiving. We continue this special holiday today. It is a time to gather with our families and celebrate our thankfulness.

This is a great thing to do – celebrate our thankfulness. But let me encourage you to develop a lifestyle of thankfulness. In the scripture above one of the remedies for anxiety is thanksgiving. Not just feeling thankful, but actually giving thanks to God. It is an action word, not just something you feel or think.

Usually our anxieties come from the stresses of life. Maybe there isn’t enough hours in the day to get everything done that you feel you need to do. Maybe your finances don’t appear to be able to cover your needs. Maybe you’re suffering from an illness and can’t seem to break free of it. All of these things and so many more can cause severe anxiety. And all of these situations can cause us to grow negative and to complain.

If we are not watchful we will find ourselves going through our days with a mindset of discontent and growing anxieties.

But in this scripture we have the key to stop this cycle and to break free from its bondage. When we have a need, no matter how small, we are to stop and pray about it. Give it to the Lord and request His help. He has the answer and is willing to supply it.

When we pray we are not to pray with a grumbly angry attitude, but with one of thanksgiving. It would a be good practice to stop and meditate before we pray on all the wonderful things that are so good in our lives. Then when we begin to pray our minds will be one of thankfulness and we can then give thanks to God for what he has already done in our lives, and that will then in turn cause us to be thankful that the situation we are asking help with at that moment will also be answered.

Meditating on the wonderful things God has done for us can only help to build our faith and give us real hope and encouragement.

So today, and every day, stop and realize what you have to be thankful for and then verbally give thanks back to God. It is an action that will create a reaction in your heart and the anxieties will flee.

God is amazing how he brings things to light ..just when you need them.

This weekend a situation occurred that actually carried through today where I had to stop and pray and ask God to see.

Do you remember Blind Bartimaeus? (Mark 10 46:-52)

He was a blind beggar just hanging out and sitting along the road. He heard some buzz that this guy was coming along who could heal folks. When the buzz got louder and he realized Jesus was approaching he cried out to him to have mercy on him, which loosely translates to, “I am sooooooo tired of being blind, could you help a poor beggar out?!”.

He wasn’t daunted either by the people shushing him. And Jesus took ntice.

After he called him over, Jesus asked Bartimaeus what he wanted. “I want to see” he begged, this time however, his request was for something other than money.

I’ve always read this verse in terms of physical healing. But this weekend I read it on Sunday morning and the words “Let me see” struck me completely different. For quite a time I have been asking the Lord to see through His eyes. To notice the spiritual and mental wounds in people that cause them to be different or to think different.

Sunday morning in our small group, we talked about enduring offense or criticism.

Coincidence? I don’t think so.

God was dealing with me about praying for my enemies and seeing even the wounds in them. This is a very bitter pill to swallow…at first.

But coupled those two principles together? It’s impossible to stay offended. I know God spoke to me ahead of time to get through the offense endured over the past few days. He also did it to teach me a lesson.

Righteous anger is okay if you remember the part about not sinning in your anger.

But you must go one step beyond it and pray for the offender, and you must ask God to let you see. To open your eyes and your heart to what causes the offender to be reacting as such. And it also helps to heal. And to calm. And to open a new realm of love you never thought yourself capable of.

It brings a peace when there shouldn’t be peace.

It’s what we’re called to do.

Where are you at this moment?

Do you wonder why you are where you are?

Long ago, a beautiful young Jewish girl was snatched from her home, probably in the middle of the night. She was taken from the only family she had left, her uncle Mordecai’s home.

You see, the King of Persia at that time had tipped the bottle a few times too many and demanded his wife, the queen take off her clothes in front of the other men to show them just how gorgeous she was. I’ve always felt sorry for the bit part Queen Vashti played in this story. She had the nerve to stand up to her husband the King, one of the most powerful men in the world at that time.

Her answer was a resounding “ARE YOU KIDDING ME? NO!”

This set into play one of my favorite ever stories in the Bible. The King needed a new wife and he wanted a stunning one.

The story of Esther is inspiring. I can’t imagine what this young girl went through, being taken away from the traditions and faith of her life, and trying to survive in the King’s castle under a different cultural influence. While many have romanticized the story of her becoming a queen, it must have been tough on her watching hundreds of other women made beautiful alongside her every day and a different one led each night to the King…and each night a fresh new face being rejected by him.

It would also have been a struggle for a young Jewish woman to know she was being forced to sleep with someone outside of wedlock. Had she been rejected, she would have become a member of the King’s harem and her chances of having a normal Jewish family life lived with her beliefs would have been shattered.

But God had a plan for Esther and His people.

He was setting it into motion even on the night when Esther probably felt so alone and hurting, having been taken from the only family she had left and everything that was safe and secure in her life.

And Esther spent over a year there in a harem, being beautified to see if she “satisfied” the King’s pleasure.

I’m sure more than once she asked God why.

And after she was queen, she was hit again in the face with the possibility of her people being wiped off the face of the earth by the evil Hamen. She risked being executed herself if she admitted to the King that she was Jewish, a point she’d kept hidden up until then.

But her Uncle Mordecai proclaimed some extreme wisdom to her in the face of death.

If you keep quiet at a time like this, deliverance and relief for the Jews will arise from some other place, but you and your relatives will die. Who knows if perhaps you were made queen for just such a time as this?” (Esther 4:14 NLT)

For you see, Esther had to go through the storms, she had to go through the trial, even when she had no idea what the outcome would be.

She had to trust God.

And she did. And she saved en entire race of people. And not just any people, but God’s chosen people! Esther could look back one day and see exactly why God allowed her life to happen the way it did…

Even when she was hurting.

What place are you in at this moment? Maybe God has YOU too in a place you don’t understand.

In a troubled marriage.

In a job you’re not crazy about.

Standing next to someone in a long line at the grocery store.

Maybe some day you too will be able to look back and see just why God has you where you are at this moment and how He’ll use it for good.

Won’t you trust Him and look for it?

Have you been in a confusing place in your life and seen how God used it for good? Tell us about it below! We’d love to hear the encouraging stories!

My husband and I teach a group of young people and have for the past 7 years. Each year when we ask what topics the young ladies and gentlemen would like to cover, one topic resurfaces time and again…especially among the girls.

Self image.

Not dating, not sex, not drugs or alcohol, but self image.

And it struck a thought in me. Perhaps this one thing is the thing that could result in all of those other things not becoming an issue. Perhaps many of our issues are just plain wrapped up in self image. However, why is this one thing so doggone difficult for us all to accept? A good self image? Why most days as women (and sometimes men) do we feel like wearing a bag over our head? Those darned commercials of leggy gorgeous models are about enough to do us in!

I believe the bottom line is, as always, the struggle between flesh and spiritualism.

We continually fight our flesh for what the world thinks of us instead of what God thinks of us, and therein lies the root of the problem.

Let’s read a few verses about what God thinks about us.

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body
and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!
Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it. (Psalm 139:13-14)

God put you together long ago. And he made you wonderfully complex. God’s workmanship can be nothing less than perfect. I mean, come on! He’s GOD. He created everything, from each earthy blade of grass to the towering mountains to the vast oceans. Yet, when He made you in your Mother’s body, He was carefully crafting you with intentions of you becoming something.

What did he intend you to be? Let’s move on.

For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago. (Ephesians 2:10 NLT, emphasis mine)

Do you see this? God made you a masterpiece. What is a masterpiece considered to be? The dictionary defines this word as “A master’s greatest work of art”. So that in turn asks…what is “art” define as…LOOK at this!

“The quality, production, expression, or realm, according to aesthetic principles, of what is beautiful, appealing, or of more than ordinary significance.”

This is the way God created you. He thought you beautiful, appealing and better than ordinary…and you know what?

No matter where life has taken you, no matter what you’ve done…good or bad..God never changes. We may not be leggy, tall and gorgeous either, but you know what?

He STILL thinks of you as beautiful and appealing. He still has intentions to use you in beautiful ways and to make your life rich.

So today, if you’re looking at yourself from the world’s standpoint, maybe you need to re read these verses and think of yourself in terms of you your creator, who finds you precious, wonderful and the greatest work of art He’s ever completed.

Find yourself beautiful in God.

Whatever your beliefs, we thank you for visiting our Christian Blog!

If I asked you right now how you are, many of you would probably give me that pat answer we all do just to get by.

“I’m fine”.

But, if you’re like me, you may have a lot of stress and business going on in your life. You may feel out of control. You may climb in bed each and every night and be thinking “I’m exhausted!”.

If you feel that way, chances are…you’re normal. Our lives have become a bevy of activity from kids to work to church to our social life.

And we’re flat exhausted.

Maybe you hate your job, or are going through a time of stress related to a situation at work or elsewhere that you just need an answer to prayer for.

Maybe it’s time to cut out a few things if need be, but many of think we can’t. And it that is the case, read what David did in Psalms 3 when he was going through a time of persecution. Stress doesn’t come any worse than when you’re being persecuted by your enemies.

But you are a shield around me, O Lord;

you bestow glory on me and lift up my head.

To the Lord I cry aloud,

and he answers me from his holy hill.

I lie down and sleep;

I wake again, because the Lord sustains me.

I love the word “sustains”.

Strongs has the meaning for the Hebrew of this words as follows:

A primitive root; to prop (literally or figuratively); reflexively, to lean upon or take hold of (in a favorable or unfavorable sense) — bear up, establish, (up-)hold, lay, lean, lie hard, put, rest self, set self, stand fast, stay (self), sustain.

The word “Sustains” in verse 5 literally means that God is “propping you up”, or that he he is leaning against you to hold you up.

I love the image of God standing behind me with his arms around me. I picture myself almost leaning back against Him and Him leaning forward to hold me upright and support my weight, or whatever is weighing me down at the moment.

I also like the thought that David “laid down and slept”. We all know about sleepless nights when we have too much on our minds. God’s sustenance allows us to trust Him and rest.

Do you need to rest today? Are you exhausted?

Take this verse to heart and let God prop you up!
